In the year 1859, South Jordan was settled by the Beckstead Family. The Beckstead’s had originally settled in West Jordan, but as time continued to progress they found the desire to move south and settle the South Jordan area. They started  by building dug outs along the banks of the Jordan River. They built what is known as the Beckstead ditch, which still exists today. This ditch was very important as is provided irrigation to crops and ran equipment. As foretold, the city was built with picks and shovels.

Primarily, South Jordan was a rural farming community. In 1960, the population was 1,354 and has continually grown since then. In 2017 the population of South Jordan was 70,954.  Today, some of the most promanente landmarks in South Jordan are the two temples built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Loveland Living Aquarium and the Bingham Canyon Open Copper Pit.

The median household income is $95,858 with over 30,700 employees. The city is still growing today. There are a large variety of schools in the area including Medspa Academies University.

All of them are public schools and each of them are very highly ranked for quality of education as well as the quantity. The City is located in the Jordan School District.
