Highland, Utah

Highland, Utah

Highland Utah is found at the base of the Wasatch Mountains with a total area of 8.5 square miles of land. In the 1870’s, the area was named by Scottish Mormon settlers who felt like the area was the same as the highlands of Scotland. The Scottish settlers probably weren’t the first people found in the area, but because of it’s wonderful location it was a popular place for settlers to settle.

Consequently, Highland soon became populated as it had everything that the people needed.  At the base of the mountain there were good places for hunting, water, and rock. They had fertile soil to start planting and building a small community. People were truly happy living here. Overtime, Mining started to become more and more popular in surrounding areas. Consequently, not long after the discovery of silver in Little Cottonwood Canyon, mining became very relevant in Utah. The American Fork Mining district was established and soon became a well known trade. Mining out of the American Fork Canyon started and many people were able to find success.

In Conclusion, since the 1870’s people have continued to fall in love with Highland. Starting with a mere 28 individuals, the population has grown to over 18,647. In 2016, the estimated median household income was $133,113. Highland is a newly populated area, with many great attractions found within. Families enjoy the animals that come to visit, nice summer breezes from the canyon, and it’s pristine location. It is the perfect place to build your dream home.
